How I Cured my Iron Deficiency?          IRON DEFICIENCY

A few years ago I was diagnosed with iron deficiency. No woman likes to hear that, certainly not a Personal Trainer! My doctor insisted on iron tablets, which I don’t particularly like taking as there are some unpleasant side effects. I asked if there was an alternative to pharmaceuticals and his answer was “Well if you don’t care about your own health then I can’t help you”. He asked me to come back in 3 months time for another check up and that was that.

At the time I was already experimenting with quite a lot of different superfoods so I started doing some of my research. I came across raw cacao. Apart from being tasty, it is loaded with vitamins and minerals. Most importantly it has been used for medicinal purposes for over thousands of years and it’s called The Amazonian Superfood. Throughout history, the cocoa plant has been used as currency, food, and medicine. Historical documentation cites cocoa and its products a cure for almost everything from fatigue, indigestion, emaciation, and hemorrhoids to respiratory ailments, cancer, depression, and heart problems.

I returned to my doctor 3 months later for a check up and his response was “I’m Glad you’ve decided to take the tablets I prescribed, your iron levels have regulated. Keep taking the tablets, they seem to be helping!”

I never told my doctor that I was using raw cacao powder. I highly recommend it to all my clients that are iron deficient and looking for an alternative to iron tablets. You can have too much of a good thing. Cacao contains caffeine as well as a substance called theobromine, both of which are stimulants. It is very powerful on the central nervous system and over-indulging can interfere with calcium retention so moderation is the key.

Buy cacao in its raw form, rather than the highly processed, low-grade hot chocolates that contain nothing but empty kilojoules and little in the way of true cacao. Before you go down the path of pharmaceuticals give raw cacao powder a go, I recommend choosing a reputable brand, unprocessed and preferably organic.
